Welcome to Circadium
Based in Philadelphia, we inspired artists from across America to create tomorrow's circus.
Circadium was the first licensed and accredited higher-education program for circus arts in the United States. As a 501(c)3 organization and a vocational school, it offered a Diploma of Circus Arts after 3 years of full-time study. 35 students completed the program and received diplomas during Circadium’s 9 years of operations, 2017-2026.
The mission of the school was to provide students with professional training in contemporary circus, and to prepare them for work in circus and related performing arts fields.
The 3-year, full-time curriculum included coursework in Acrobatics, Aerials, Juggling, Physical Theatre, Dance, Conditioning and Flexibility, along with supplementary work in Dramaturgy, Circus History and Career Planning. Over the years, dozens of other courses were taught – from Music, to Photography, to Prop Design, to Financial Management. One thing remained consistent – a strong emphasis always was placed on the creation of original work, and Friday Presentations.
Circadium provided Artist-in-Residence and Professional Practice space, giving graduates and professional circus artists resources to meet, rehearse, and perform. The school was a proud member of the FEDEC.
Circadium empowered new generations of circus artists to bring the dynamism and wonder of circus to audiences of all kinds. It was a higher-education institution committed to radically changing the future of performing arts by bringing a multidisciplinary and experiment-driven approach to creation and performance.
